When standard label technology is not enough
We use the term specialty labels for labels with functional properties that go beyond standard applications. These may be QSR labels that serve both front-of-house and back-of-house functions. They may be clean-cut linerless labels that must dispense reliably, multilayer constructions that need to open and close in a controlled way, or transparent films that combine appearance, print quality and functionality.
Specialty label applications place higher demands on materials, coatings and functionality. Requirements may include increased adhesion, adhesive-free zones, specific release properties or resistance to demanding environmental conditions. Meeting these requirements depends on specialised materials, coatings and coating technologies that deliver the intended performance reliably.
New applications require the right technology
The functional requirements of a specialty label determine both the material selection and the technology needed to create the required properties. Selective coating patterns, UV hotmelt curing, controlled release properties and highly accurate coating weights often require additional process technology and tighter control of critical parameters.
The challenge is to translate this functionality into a reliable and reproducible production process that delivers the same performance consistently. Examples include:
- Controlled release for linerless applications
- Uniform silicone coating across the full web width
- Accurate coating weights on transparent films
- Stable web handling of thin and sensitive materials
- Tight tolerances for clean-cut applications
This is where the difference emerges between a concept that works and a product that can be reproduced consistently.
Where Maan Engineering makes the difference
New label constructions do not always require a new production line. Sometimes the challenge is to integrate new technology reliably into an existing process. Maan Engineering develops coating and converting solutions that enable converters to introduce specialty label applications without compromising quality, speed or reproducibility.
From release coatings to specialised hotmelt applications. From clean-cut linerless labels to multilayer and QSR labels. With in-depth knowledge of coating behaviour, process control and material interaction, we help you take the next step in specialty label development.
