Roller Coater
A good laminate starts with a perfectly applied layer of adhesive. It sounds logical, but that is precisely where things often go wrong in practice. Too much adhesive, too little adhesive, temperature variations, debris or uneven distribution can have a direct impact on the quality of the end product.
The Roller Coater from Maan Engineering has been developed to eliminate that risk. The system applies the hot-melt adhesive with extreme precision to one or both sides of a panel. A consistent adhesive layer guarantees optimum adhesion. Whether you’re working with wood, plastic, sandwich panels, foams or other technical materials, the Roller Coater ensures a stable process and a predictable end result.
What makes our Roller Coater unique?
At first glance, many Roller Coaters appear similar. The difference, however, lies in the details. It is precisely these details that determine how stable your process runs, how much maintenance is required and how consistent your product quality remains.
Always in control of the adhesive layer
The Roller Coater has been developed to ensure precise control of the coating weight applied. Depending on the hot-melt adhesive used, the substrate and the line speed, a coating weight of between:
- 20 and 400 g/m²
- Production speeds of 3 to 30 m/min
- Material thicknesses of 3 to 100 mm
- Working widths up to 2400 mm
This means that the same platform can be used for both thin laminates and heavy-duty construction panels.
Heated rollers for a stable process
A key distinguishing feature of the Maan Roller Coater is the use of heated coating rollers that are driven individually. This allows the coating process to be precisely tailored to the adhesive, the material, the desired film thickness and production requirements. The temperature remains stable at all times across the entire roller width. The adhesive is therefore applied to the surface to be bonded at exactly the correct temperature. This is crucial for the viscosity and quality of the adhesive and thus ensures consistent processing of the hotmelt.
Less contamination through intelligent sealing
A common problem with hot-melt applications is the build-up of old adhesive residue on the edges of the coating roller. This ultimately leads to contamination and a loss of quality. We have taken this into account in the design of our Roller Coater. The hot-melt is applied directly above the coating roller via strategically positioned glue guns. Combined with the standard Teflon seals, this prevents unwanted glue build-up and keeps the system clean for longer.
Designed for everyday production
In a production environment, it is not only the quality of the end product that matters, but also the machine’s uptime. That is why the coating rollers can be fitted with a special non-stick coating. This prevents adhesive from sticking to the roller as easily, makes cleaning easier and keeps downtime to a minimum.
Configured around your process
No two products are the same. That is why the Roller Coater is not a standard machine that is used in the same way everywhere.
Depending on your application, the machine can be configured for single-sided or double-sided coating. For example, the Top Coater is suitable for products where the adhesive is applied only to the top side. The Double Roller Coater applies a layer of adhesive to both the top and bottom of the panel. In this version, the lower transport roller is also replaced by a coating roller with a doctor blade and additional hot-melt application units. This allows you to increase your capacity and eliminate extra process steps.
Fully integrated into your production process
The Roller Coater can be used as a stand-alone machine, but is most effective when integrated into a complete coating or laminating line. Depending on the material and application, the machine can be combined with:
- Corona treatment for plastic materials
- IR pre-heating for glass and plastics
- Round Brush or Cross Brush system for dust removal from wood
- Laminating Index Station
- Sheet Feeder
- Drum Melter
- And can be integrated into a fully automated production line.
We tailor every installation to your required capacity, materials and product characteristics. Before a line is delivered, we always test the machine in operation, followed by a joint test with the customer.
Applications of the Roller Coater
The Roller Coater is used worldwide for a wide range of applications, including:
- Building & Construction panels
- Doors and interior panels
- Flooring applications
- Engineering foams
- Automotive components
- Plastic panels
- Engineering laminates
- Specialised industrial composites
The Roller Coater is particularly well-suited where consistent adhesion, high product quality and process reliability are crucial to the end product.
Performance you can rely on
Want to know which Roller Coater configuration is right for your product?
Every application has different requirements in terms of coating weight, material behaviour and production speed. That is why we look not only at the machine, but at the entire process. In our test and demonstration centre, we carry out application tests that enable us to determine the correct configuration and process settings for your specific application.
