Flat panel lamination for floors

Flooring must not only look good, but also perform well for years under heavy use. Whether it’s laminate flooring, PVC flooring, parquet flooring or other composite flooring solutions, the adhesive plays a crucial role in the quality of the end product.

At the same time, as a manufacturer, you want to produce faster, work cleanly, reduce waste and achieve consistent product quality. PUR hotmelt helps to bring these objectives together.

Why PUR hotmelt for flooring?

PUR hotmelt combines fast processing with a strong and durable bond. This allows floor panels to be produced efficiently without compromising on quality.

Bonding floor panels with PUR hotmelt offers the following benefits:

  • Strong adhesion between different types of material
  • High resistance to moisture and temperature
  • Immediate processing after lamination
  • High line speeds and greater scope for automation
  • Lower adhesive consumption per m²
  • A smooth surface without visible adhesive patterns or telegraphing
  • Reduced risk of delamination over the product’s lifespan

The challenges of gluing floor panels

Expansion and contraction of materials due to temperature and humidity fluctuations

Underfloor heating, fluctuating humidity, exposure to dirt and moisture, and temperature fluctuations. Floors have to endure a lot. And it is precisely these factors that cause stresses within the panel, which can lead to warping or delamination. PUR hotmelt creates a durable bond that can absorb these fluctuations, whilst our controlled lamination processes ensure a high-quality panel construction.

A sleek finished product without visible imperfections.

With floor panels, a smooth finish is just as important as technical performance. Uneven adhesive application can lead to telegraphing or visible marks in the decorative layer. With our Roller Coater technology, we apply the adhesive as precisely and evenly as possible, resulting in a smooth and consistent finish.

High production speeds without loss of quality

Producing higher volumes without compromising on quality? We are frequently asked this question. The challenge lies in ensuring uniform adhesive application and reliable bonding across the entire panel width even at high speeds. Our coating and laminating lines have been developed for stable, clean production processes in which speed and consistency – and therefore your product quality – go hand in hand.

Bonding different material combinations

Floor panels often consist of several layers, such as the subfloor or backing, the balancing layer, the load-bearing core or HDF core, and the decorative layer or top layer, each of which has its own specific requirements. For this reason, the optimal combination is determined for each application: the adhesive, the required surface treatment and other processes that contribute to a high-quality end product. The following materials, amongst others, can be bonded using PUR or hotmelt:

  • HDF
  • MDF
  • Plywood
  • Wood veneer
  • Cork
  • LVT
  • PVC
  • PET films
  • Textiles and non-wovens
  • Underlay materials
  • Various decorative top layers

Do you have another material that you wish to bond? We would be happy to investigate which bonding solution best suits your application.

How we help you

A high-quality floor panel starts with a well-controlled lamination process. That is why we look beyond just the adhesive or the machine.

Our engineers provide support with:

  • The development of complete coating and lamination processes
  • Material and adhesion testing
  • The selection of PUR and MR adhesives
  • Surface treatment of challenging materials
  • Process validation at our test facilities in Raalte

As every floor construction places different demands on adhesion, stress and material behaviour, we develop configurations tailored to your specific production process.

In this way, we ensure that your floor panels are not only properly bonded, but also continue to perform well for years to come.
