Silicone Coating Station

A high-quality silicone coating requires more than just a good coating system. The result is determined by a controlled interplay of feed, metering, transfer and curing.

That is why the Maan Silicone Coating Station has been developed around a single principle: maximum process control. Every stage of the process is designed to build up the coating layer in a reproducible manner. This allows you to maintain control over coating weight and appearance, release properties and, ultimately, your product quality.

Whether you work with paper, film or thermal release materials, the system offers the stability required for a predictable coating process.

A powerful three-roller standard

Every gram of silicone has a direct impact on both product performance and production costs. That is why Maan Engineering’s Silicone Coating Station comes as standard with a three-roller system that ensures the silicone is applied with a high degree of precision.

The foundation is laid in the buffer tank

Inside the sealed buffer tank, a mixing propeller keeps the silicone emulsion in constant motion. This ensures that the various components remain thoroughly mixed, thereby preventing contamination and the formation of air bubbles in the silicone. A pump then transports the silicone from the buffer tank to the coating station and its three rollers.

The three-roller principle

The anilox roller ensures that exactly the correct amount of silicone is transferred to a transfer roller. The silicone is then distributed evenly across the substrate via the coating roller.

This configuration strikes a balance between accuracy, process stability and flexibility. The silicone is distributed and transferred in a controlled manner, resulting in a uniform coating layer across the entire web width.

As the rollers and process parameters can be adjusted individually, the system can be tailored to a wide range of substrates, coating weights and product specifications.

Control over footprint, speed and temperature

When all relevant process parameters are balanced, you can count on a consistent and optimal silicone coating layer. That is why the Maan Silicone Coating Station offers extensive options for precisely controlling the transfer of the silicone onto the substrate. Factors such as footprint, relative speeds and temperature can be optimally coordinated. For example, the rollers are individually driven, allowing them to be controlled independently of one another, whilst both the temperature and process conditions are continuously monitored.

This ultimately ensures optimal transfer and distribution of the silicone across the substrate. It helps to prevent unwanted coating defects, such as pinholes or the ‘zipper effect’. As a result, you can count on optimal control, which in turn contributes to a high-quality and reproducible end result.

Change web width and pattern with replaceable sleeves

The transfer roller in the Silicone Coating Station is fitted with a rubber sleeve. This sleeve determines where the silicone comes into contact with the substrate. In this way, the sleeve defines the coating pattern and the effective coating width.

Would you like to use a different web width or adjust the coating pattern? Then simply change the sleeve. This allows you to adapt the station to a new production run without having to replace the entire transfer roller. The sleeve enables you to process different widths and coating patterns within a single machine configuration. This provides the flexibility to produce multiple product specifications on the same line.

Advanced curing for high-quality release performance

The quality of a silicone coating is determined not only by the application process, but also by the curing process. That is why the Silicone Coating Station is equipped with advanced UV-curing technology. Combined with a controlled process environment (an inert chamber filled with nitrogen and a cooled roller), this technology ensures an extremely stable curing process and optimal coating performance. The result is a high-quality release coating that meets the requirements of modern label, tape and release applications.

For applications requiring even greater precision

For applications requiring even greater precision, Maan offers an advanced 5-roller system. By building up and distributing the silicone film in stages across several individually driven rollers, maximum control over the coating process is achieved. This makes it possible to apply low coat weights quickly and with extreme precision, without compromising process stability.

The result is a uniform coating layer, consistent release properties and reliable performance, even at higher production speeds.
